Julian Bickmann, a man of the first WagArb hour, has returned to the firm as of this week. He will be working with us alongside writing his doctoral thesis, which he is doing under the mentorship of Prof. Klaus-Peter Berger at the University of Cologne.
Julian was the very first to join Philipp’s solo practice back in the fall of 2013 as a student research assistant and stayed on board for more than two years until he graduated from law school. Following the first state exam, he left WagArb to complete the German legal clerkship (Referendariat) which included trainee positions at international law firms in Hong Kong and Berlin, as well as at the German Federal Cartel Office in Bonn.
Julian specializes in international arbitration and dispute resolution as well as corporate and commercial law and has a strong regional focus on Brazil ever since his student days. Altogether over the years, Julian has spent more than a year living and working in São Paulo, including a two months traineeship at a leading Brazilian law firm. Most recently, he spent three months in the Cidade Maravilhosa, Rio de Janeiro, working for one of the most renowned Brazilian arbitration practitioners.
Hence, Julian’s working languages do not only include English and German, but also Portuguese. He is a graduate of Humboldt University of Berlin and has been a past participant and coach of the University’s Vis Moot team.
We are glad to start off the year 2018 with such good news and very warmly welcome Julian back to the WagArb team.
