”Italienische Stadt mit Wasserfall” – After gracing our office reception for the past few years, the painting by Jakob Philipp Hackert, Goethe’s painting tutor, has been picked up to go to its new home – the Casa di Goethe in Rome.
As some of you may recall, alongside colleagues from Italy and Switzerland, we helped the heirs of the former Jewish owner, who sold the painting to Hildbrandt Gurlitt in 1940 and was later killed in Theresienstadt, restitute it through inheritance procedures initiated by the German government.
We were truly honored to have had the painting on display at our office in the past few years and have shared its story with many in the meantime. The painting may be someplace else now, but we will continue to tell the story
