This year’s special discussion series, #Wendegeschichten or “Turning Points” on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the fall of the #BerlinWall, will continue on 13 June – with Dr. Ramona Schardt, LL.M. (UVA) and Anne K. Hoffmann.
Both were born in 1973 in the #GDR. Ramona grew up in Magdeburg, Anne in East Berlin. The fall of the wall changed their lives and that of their families completely. They both embarked on a legal education that initially took Ramona to Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena and Anne to the Freie Universität Berlin.
After an impressive career as a lawyer and in-house counsel in Frankfurt am Main and Munich, Ramona was appointed Secretary General of the German Arbitration Institute, headquartered in Bonn, just over a year ago. Anne left Germany altogether after completing her legal training, and is now a prominent arbitrator based in Dubai, after an equally impressive career as a lawyer in London and Geneva.
Philipp will talk with both of them about how they perceived the fall of the Wall, how they oriented themselves in a new system, what challenges they faced, and what Germany 🇩🇪 means to them today.
