October kicked off with a series of Brazilian events in Germany. First, Julian Bickmann ventured out to Frankfurt for a congress co-organized by Professor Peter Christian and Dr. jur Ricardo Campos on “Digitalization and Democracy – A Brazil-Europe Dialogue”. Kudos in particular to our colleagues from the arbitration community for the panel discussion on “Resistance to Arbitral Awards and Digitalization”, comparing the German and Brazilian legal framework and addressing AI, data protection and recent German and European case law on the validity of arbitration agreements.
The next day, the LAV – Business Association for Latin America‘s Lateinamerika-Tag 2023 started off in Stuttgart with an event organized by Dr. T. Alex Backsmann and kindly hosted by Alfred Kärcher SE & Co. KG on “Brazil as Part of the International Community”, discussing challenges of the bilateral German-Brazilian commercial relationship and the lengthy negotiations of the EU-Mercosul Trade Agreement (Augusto Cesar Barbosa de Souza, Daniel Engel, Christian Hoffmann).
And thankfully, there is always time for a dinner with old colleagues and new friends. It was a pleasure to catch up, see you next year!
