❤️#Vorfreude

— One of those beautiful German words (yes, there are some) that do not quite translate into other languages — at least those that I know. “Gemütlichkeit” is another one of those.

Anyway, anticipation is the standard translation for Vorfreude. But that does not quite catch it. “Vor” means “Pre”, and “Freude” “Joy”. In other words a special temporary joy before an eagerly anticipated event. Often used in our part of the world to describe the joy during the season prior to Christmas.

🔥 Or the joy prior to a party that one is very much looking forward to. Like me today. Because the team will be coming over later this afternoon for our annual Christmas party. We will cook on a big fire in the garden and hopefully spend a joyful, gemütlich evening after a year that presented some challenges we had not signed up for.

🪵 Gotta go. Set the table. Arrange the candles. Stack the wood. Get a fire going. Finish that stew. Check on the wine. And get these placement cards done.

So much Vorfreude. See ya! ❤️
