This belief is deeply rooted in our own culture at the #Arbitrattoria. With our annual Cook of the Year Award — which was recently awarded to the one and only Giulio Polisi for 2025 🏆👏 — we celebrate cooking, shared meals, and the idea that food is more than nourishment: it is care, community, and connection.
And that is exactly why we support the charity A Bleistift FOR EVERYONE (Bleistift = pencil), which next to school materials provides daily school meals for children in under-resourced communities.
A warm meal might seem like a small gesture, but the research is clear:

🛡️it reduces illness and absenteeism
💡 it supports healthy cognitive development during the most formative years
💗 and over time, it strengthens communities by building personalities, equality, and economic opportunity

When we joined the school meal sponsorship last year, our colleague Laura Halonen reminded us of an exemplary case: Finland’s development after the Second World War. As she put it:

Finland’s universal school meal program (👉see comment) indeed helped eliminate childhood malnutrition, equalised opportunities, and formed part of the foundation on which the country built its knowledge-based economy. It is a powerful illustration that small, consistent interventions can shape the trajectory of an entire society. Other countries and communities also follow this example.
