It has been a decade since the International Dispute Resolution (IDR) LL.M. – Berlin at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin has opened its doors for students from all over the world. And that is reason to celebrate and reflect.
This year, as in past years, several of our team members were involved in the program as lecturers (Laura Halonen, Philipp K. Wagner, Petrit Elshani). Together with a small team of dedicated founders, including Patrick Angénieux, Nils Schmidt-Ahrendts and Tom Christopher Pröstler, Philipp helped establish the program.
👉 Philipp lectured again this week on setting aside and enforcement of arbitral awards, which he has been doing since the program’s inception.
👉 Laura lectures on the practice of investment arbitration in the investment law class.
👉 Petrit, in particular, has gone full circle giving a crash course on investment law and arbitration, having graduated himself from the first class in 2016 – a true LL.M. #OG.
The growth of the program during this period and its impact on Berlin and generally the dispute resolution scene in Germany is impressive:
📚 It has educated legal professionals from all over the globe in the theory and practice of international dispute resolution, particularly arbitration.
🌎 It has contributed to making the arbitration scene in Germany more international and dynamic.
🤝 And it has brought together law students from all four corners of the globe, contributing to more international dialogue and real-life inter-cultural understanding.
This is of course also true for our own little #WagArb microcosm, as we prepare to warmly welcome another batch of visiting professionals from the LL.M. program to our firm a few weeks from now.
We are beyond happy this program is based in Berlin, and thank particularly Professor Gerhard Wagner and his chair, Alicja Zielinska-Eisen, and current program coordinators Filippo Furlano and Pablo Ortega Krstulovic for their tireless work in developing the program and making it what it is now.
We are probably at liberty to say that the 10-year anniversary will be celebrated in an adequate manner later this year, but will leave the disclosure of the details to the organizers. We cannot wait to celebrate with everyone, and look forward to seeing many graduates and WagArb alumn!
