Wagner-Arbitration

LL.M. Internship Season begins

WagArb welcomes its 5th generation of LL.M. interns within the IDR LL.M. program at Humboldt University of Berlin: This season, Nthabeleng Mafisa and Carolina Lana Castilho are the first to join us.

Nthabeleng Mafisa

Nthabeleng comes from Lesotho and studied law (LL.B.) in the capital city, Maseru, at the National University of Lesotho. Prior to moving to Berlin for her LL.M. in International Dispute Resolution, she had gained experience from working at two different law firms in Maseru, working in areas of employment arbitration, commercial litigation and human rights protection. Looking to contribute to the then ongoing human rights and justice reforms, Nthabeleng participated in a massive open online course of the International and African Legal Framework on Freedom of Expression, Access to Information and Safety of Journalists offered by the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria. She further worked at the Director of Public Prosecutions’ office in Maseru.

Nthabeleng is a founding member of Cancer Care Lesotho and was the President of the Student Law Society of the National University of Lesotho during her studies. She is passionate about empowering young adults in her home-country and creating different income streams given the high unemployment rates there. She also does charity work to help impoverished families in the local communities. Her working languages are English and Sesotho, her native language.

Carolina Lana Castilho

Carolina is from Brazil, and completed her law degree at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), where she was coordinator of the arbitration and international contracts study group. Her undergraduate thesis on the last-shot and knock-out theories under the CISG won 3rd place in the VII Essay Competition Professor Albert H. Kritzer and was published by CISG-Brasil.Net.

She was an arbitration and litigation lawyer at Tavernard Advogados in Belo Horizonte before moving to Berlin. Carolina is also a committed mootie, having participated in the 25th Vis Moot in Vienna on behalf of UFMG. Apart from the universe of arbitration, Carolina is passionate about playing the violin and can often be found attending classical concerts. She will definitely enjoy being so close to both the Konzerthaus and the Staatsoper during her internship.
