Viva Chile!

Pablo Ortega Krstulovic is a Chilean-qualified lawyer who joins us as a visiting professional from the new class of the IDR LL.M at HU. He grew up in Arica, Chile and completed his legal education at the University of Chile in Santiago.

Before moving to Berlin, Pablo gained experience as an associate lawyer at one of the most prestigious law firms in Chile, where he specialized in civil and labour law litigation.

We look very much forward to working with Pablo and have so many questions…

What was your first job?

In Chile, my first job was as a junior lawyer in a law firm. And here in Germany, I first worked as a TV extra for different German TV Shows.

Breakfast or dinner?

Breakfast, best meal of the day by far. Nothing beats a grilled cheese sandwich with a hot cup of coffee to start the day right.

What do you cook when you spontaneously have friends over for dinner?

My go-to dish is a YouTube-obtained Chicken Curry recipe, which is easy to make and super tasty. It hasn’t disappointed any guest so far.

Mountains or Seaside?

I grew up in a port city, so Seaside for me.

If you could meet someone famous, dead or alive, who would it be?

My great-grandfather from the maternal side. I would like to know his life story and the reasons behind his migration from Yugoslavia to Chile.

Which was your favorite place to live so far?

Berlin, the place to be.

Digital or analogue?

Digital.

Favorite time of day?

Is it weird to say that I like mornings? I like the quietness of it, mainly because I take my time and do not rush to wherever I have to be.

Window or aisle seat?

Aisle seat, leg room is essential.

Country you wish to visit?

Right now, Croatia. I want to explore my roots.

What song will always get you on the dancefloor?

As a Latin-American, any good reggaeton will do the trick. “Salgo pa’ la calle” by Daddy Yankee if I must choose.

Good advice you’ve received?

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. – Wayne Gretzky” – Michael Scott

Biggest pet peeve?

People talking during a movie.

Most played on your music playlist right now?

“Be Mine” by Boy Pablo.

Favorite holiday?

Chile’s national holiday (September 18). Lots of food, drinks and people having fun. You can even find some celebrations here in Berlin during that time of the year.

Last new thing you learned?

Not every furnished apartment in Berlin comes with a microwave.

Which movie can you watch over and over?

Interstellar.

Three words to describe Berlin?

Lively, Tolerant and Cool.

Three words to describe your hometown Arica?

Quiet, Sunny and Dry.

Night owl or early bird?

Early bird. But, to quote the great Michael Scott again: “I am both a night owl and an early bird. So I am wise and I have worms.”

Favorite pizza topping?

Onions, always a good choice.
