WagArb warmly welcomes Julian Kulaga as trainee advocate

Julian completed a double degree in English law and German law at the King’s College London, where he obtained an LL.B. honors. Subsequently, he moved to Berlin where he obtained a German law degree following his studies at HU. Besides this, Julian also studied theology and philosophy, which led to his election as an associateship of King’s College.

Julian began his Referendariat in Berlin in November 2021. Prior to that, he was a research assistant for Prof. Dr. Georg Nolte for five years (2016-2021) at the chair for public law and public international law of HU. But even now, Julian still maintains close connections to HU, where he continues teaching EU constitutional law on the basis of a teaching assignment.

From 2015 to 2016, he was a student assistant for the Berlin Potsdam Research Group on “International Rule of Law – Rise or Decline?”. Besides that, he also completed internships with major international law firms in London, Hamburg, and Berlin.

Julian has published widely in legal journals, particularly on matters of international law, which might have to do with the fact that he was born and raised in Münster in Westphalia – or the cradle of classical international law, as he calls it. Nevertheless, his interests are not limited to the Westphalian system. Julian is also a black-belt judoka, certified coach and spends his free-time jamming the classical guitar or playing tennis
