Negotiation through mediation – with Alexander Steinbrecher

Our 26th overall and first 2024 lunch bowl took place last week – with Alexander giving an insightful talk on mediation from an in-house perspective.

Three key takeaways:

🧰 First, mediation should be seen as a daily communication toolbox to reach decisions and joint conclusions, and not just an extraordinary dispute resolution method.

💡Second, if viewed and applied this way, mediation can help you understand the genuine issues and interests standing in the way of a functional relationship.

⏳ Third, the above often requires months of commitment and transparent, trustful communication between the relevant stakeholders. But if done effectively, it can lead to a creative resolution of the dispute. In some circumstances, the solution may even create value for both parties which they had not identified before and which makes the original subject matter of the dispute and the legal claims moot.

🛠️ As Alexander put it, mediation is a tool which helps him swim in the business ocean. We thank him for letting us swim along under his guidance, and look forward to future encounters.

🎙️Further lunch bowls on our ’24 topic of mediation will follow. Stay tuned 📣
