Another of my drawings that may have just been another skiing holiday by-product in the later 1990s reveals something more for me today: the importance of caring in the legal profession.
I don’t know about you, but I have taken some hits in my life.
Personally. Professionally. Spiritually.
Sometimes, life just throws you down. The important thing is to get back up. Shake off the snow. Put them skis back on. Continue the ride.
You can do that by yourself.
But it is often so much easier with the support of others. People who care about you. People who you can ask for help. I have been lucky enough to have always been surrounded by such good people. Family. Friends. Colleagues. Advisors. Clients. Caring human beings.
It is this spirit and experience that forms an integral part of my approach as counsel, as mediator, as arbitrator: caring about the matter and those involved. Making sure that what needs to be heard is heard — and taken into consideration. Being there when the going gets tough. When core interests are at stake. When it gets uncomfortable.
I am very grateful for all the role models I have had in this respect, first and foremost my parents. Many more followed and the list is long. They are in many different places in the world and have various roles. But Mom and Dad have always been two bright lights seeking to help others wherever and whenever they could.
Happy Sunday everyone, and a good start to the new week!
