Three Years on – How to make Russia pay

On the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, we had the privilege of hosting Polina Lehmann (United For Ukraine , Head of Legal Aid), Olga Hamama (Special Counsel at Clifford Chance), and Yuliya Ziskina (Senior Legal Fellow at Razom for Ukraine, Attorney at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan) at our lunchbowl event, “Three Years On – How to Make Russia Pay.”

Olga and Polina provided important updates on ongoing efforts to ensure accountability and justice for victims, including Ukraine’s new damage registry, which enables individuals to document losses from deaths and property destruction. They also reflected on the challenges ahead, particularly in light of evolving international policy positions and their potential impact on peace efforts.

Yuliya then spoke to the critical need for seizing frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine’s recovery and provide compensation for those affected by the war. Redirecting these resources would not only aid in rebuilding but also reinforce the global commitment to upholding justice and ensuring that the burden of war does not fall solely on Ukraine.

We are deeply grateful to Polina, Olga, and Yuliya for sharing their expertise and for their tireless dedication to seeking justice and accountability in these challenging times.
