Enforcing arbitral awards in Georgia

Georgia has a modern and arbitration-friendly legal system. Its Law on Arbitration, based on the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration, constitutes a single framework governing both domestic and international arbitration. Georgia has also been a party to the 1958 New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards since 1994.

Both permanent arbitration institutions and ad hoc arbitration are possible and operate in Georgia. The Georgian International Arbitration Centre (“GIAC”) is Georgia’s first international arbitration institution. The Georgian Association of Arbitrators (“GAA”), established in 2013, encourages the development of arbitration in Georgia, enhances the qualifications of arbitrators, and promotes professional ethics. Since 2015, GIAC has hosted an annual international conference – GIAC Arbitration Days in Tbilisi, serving as a networking and exchange forum for arbitration practitioners worldwide.
